I've recently heard that Westport's village motto is "Life is Good." As with all rumours in Westport, you can take it or you can leave it, but I think it's entirely appropriate.
While it's a complete coincidence that Canada's ONLY dedicated Life is Good store is located in little ol' Westport, it's made me think of all the great things we have in this area. Of course, we have the beauty of the Rideau Lakes and Foley Mountain, but also the quaint nuances like tipping your finger or giving a wave to each other on the street, the dedication to shopping local and giving directions to someone's house not by referencing the street number and name but by saying "the house so and so used to live in."
Westport businesses are strong supporters of local charity and volunteer organizations like the Westport Arts Council. The WAC, run completely by volunteers, organizes Summer's biggest event, Music Westport, happening August 18th. Music Westport is a free outdoor music festival featuring great bands on two stages, a food market and kids' zone.
To put on this free event, WAC fundraises tirelessly throughout the year. Jake by the Lake has been fortunate to support one of these fundraisers, Art on the Street, by displaying one of six artist designed Muskoka chairs that will be raffled off at Music Westport. Featured in our window, our host chair is from the soon to open Westport Brewing Co. We dig it's good vibes and Life is Good appeal. Come by the store to buy a raffle ticket!
We look forward to seeing you next weekend at Music Westport! #lifeisgoodinWestport :)
